The PostScript Previewer displays error messages when
it encounters an error in the file you are viewing.
When a error is detected, the PostScript Previewer
cannot process the file until the error is corrected.

Primarily, there are two ways of generating PostScript
 files:

 1. Using a text formatter, such as VAX DOCUMENT

 2. Creating a PostScript program file

Some text formatters can produce PostScript files that
contain illegal comments. Such PostScript files can
 confuse the PostScript Previewer.

If you are having trouble viewing a file generated by a
text formatter, you may be able to correct it by:

 1. Move the pointer to the Options menu.

 2. Press MB1 and drag the pointer down.

 3. If the Use Comments button is highlighted, choose
    Use Comments.

 4. Release MB1. Parsing of PostScript comments is

For example, the following error message tells you that
the word "bicycle" is an undefined PostScript operator
and the line containing the word must be removed:

%%[Error: undefined; Offending Command: bicycle ]%%

After you correct the error, choose the Revisit Current

The same PostScript file can be either printed or
viewed on the screen, but characters look somewhat
different on the printed page and the screen. The
printer has finer resolution than the screen; with more
dots per inch, the printer can make characters look
clearer than the screen can. However, to clarify
characters, PostScript Previewer can use spacing
formulas designed for bitmaps (screen images) instead
 of those designed for print.

The Use Bitmap Widths option is disabled by default.
This setting is appropriate if you are more concerned
with format and layout and less concerned with reading
actual text. Spacing between characters is the same as
on the printed page, so the page layout is also the
same. Notice however, that characters might be dense
 and difficult to read.

To best read the text in a file, click on the Use
Bitmap Widths option. The display changes immediately,
and the option button is highlighted. Text characters
appear well spaced and are easily read. However, the
file might look slightly different on screen than it
would when printed. Columns may not be aligned
precisely or a paragraph formatted for right
justification might appear instead with a ragged right
 margin.
